best artillery wot 2023
I have researched various sources including Reddit discussions, game forums, and websites to gather information on the best artillery in World of Tanks for 2023 [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. The consensus among players and experts is not unanimous, but there are several popular choices that stand out. Given the variety of opinions and sources, there may be some uncertainty in my findings.

-
Towed artillery pieces
- Air transport - can be transported in smaller aircraft and can be slung under medium utility helicopters
- Easier to maintain - can swap trucks over and fill the truck up with ammunition
- Cheaper cost - less than a SPG
- Easier to improve a full position around towed guns - large stockpile of ammunition can be used
- Easier to transport - lighter weight
- Easier jury-rig repair
- Less logistics tail - can use common chassis elements for other armored fighting vehicles
- More tubes firing - more advantageous than 1 SPG
- More storage
- Can be delivered to places unreachable for an SPG
-
SPGs
- Self contained, relatively armored cannon
- Can move relatively easily
- Provides extra security - can establish fire superiority
- More efficient repair/retrieval system for large tracked vehicles
- Can minimize supply issues by using common parts between the Bradley and MLRS
- Better range

Modern Gun-Howitzers
- These weapons can do both high-angle fire like a howitzer and high-velocity fire like a gun.
- Most armies refer to these weapons as howitzers but the British call them guns and the Russians still use compound gun-howitzer terminology.
-
Mortars
- Any piece of artillery that is designed specifically for indirect fire at angles of more than 45 degrees.
- Tend to be low-velocity weapons.
- Small-caliber mortars (120mm or less) are often considered infantry heavy weapons rather than artillery.
- Larger mortars do still exist.
-
Howitzers
- Capable of both low-angle and high-angle fire.
- Practically by definition, a howitzer can elevate beyond 45 degrees.
-
Guns
- Capable of low-angle fire and have higher velocity.
- Guns have the longest ranges.
-
Naval Artillery
- Almost always called guns.
- Naval artillery capable of high-angle fire is almost always for anti-aircraft purposes.
-
Cannons
- Not really a strictly defined term.
- By one definition, a cannon is capable of firing an explosive shell (though it may not always fire them).

-
M44
- It has the best credit earner in the current tech tree.
- It is reasonably accurate which means it can do good damage.
- It fires only HE so its shells are cheap, and the repair cost of the tank is cheap.
-
105 leFH18B2
- It is a captured French B1 bis tank that has a German 105mm howitzer gun fitted to it by the Rheinmetall-Borsig company.
-
Tier 8 Premium Artillery
- According to TragicLoss and CabbageMechanic, there won’t be one in the near future.
- If it does get released, it will be available through a marathon that can only be completed by playing artillery.
- The marathon will go for a full month due to the restriction of only being possible to complete by playing artillery.
- The requirements will be a bit more restrictive however, if you wish to grind XP you will need to earn a total of 300,000 base XP.

-
M12
- By far the best American arty for stunning missions according to the stats and Python graph provided
- Assumes 100% crew, no food, equipment, or anything else was used
- Top gun was used
-
M53/M55
- Similar or better than the M12 with the 155mm gun
- Larger range of traverse and mobility
- Could be less expensive than other Tier 9s because of its long reload and fewer shells fired
-
FV3805
- Stock or second gun might be pretty good for the stun mission

-
PT-SAUs
- They have an excellent gun, which can penetrate all tanks.
- Most of the PTs have no turret, so shooting is possible only in the direction of movement of the equipment.
- It is recommended to stay behind allied units and cover them with fire.
-
Heavy tanks
- They are excellent for close combat and ramming.
- They have thick armor but lack mobility.
-
Medium tanks
- They are highly accurate but not as mobile as light tanks.
- They have more armor, so some of the enemy’s hits will ricochet.
-
Light tanks
- They are suitable for constantly rushing to attack fighters and are excellent scouts.
- They are mobile due to the high speed, and their main advantage is a good overview, which allows you to notice the enemies from afar.
-
Artillery pieces
- They suit patient players and true strategists because one shot can destroy the enemy’s tank.
- They have a complete lack of armor, low mobility, and a long flight time of the projectile to the target.
- With a good choice of position, it is difficult to detect even an experienced “firefly”.

Good average damage for tier 10 artillery:
- 3000+ damage considered a good game

- 1000+ damage considered a poor game
-
Need to focus on carrying as hard as possible
- Hit almost everything shot at
- Shoot baddies until they are gone
- Use OP SPGs, shoot 100% sprem HE, use premium consumables
- 60% solopubbing is possible with strong play, strong arty, and 100% gold rounds

US Artillery
- have much wider traverse arcs, resulting in much less turning to readjust for lateral movements
- have a slightly higher arc
- have a better splash range
- have a better rate of fire
- have more mobility
-
German Artillery
- have narrow arcs
- are noticeably more accurate shots
- GWPanther and Hummel have wider arcs
- the panther is the most accurate currently
- 210mm is potent
- can lead to the wildly-inaccurate-but-satisfying-if-it-works T92 that could theoretically do 2850 damage (total overkill)
