Building a semiautomatic Uzi:
- Requires a fully welded receiver, preferably from McKay Enterprises
- Requires a parts kit, which is an original military Uzi that was chopped up for import
- Requires a semiautomatic bolt and striker assembly from McKay
- The grip assembly needs to be modified with a selector block and a different sear
- The top cover needs to be modified to disable the ratchet mechanism
- Need a 16” barrel to comply with the National Firearms Act
- Need magazines, preferably original IMI magazines
- Need a model A sight tool to adjust the front sight

Some states have restrictions on homemade firearms, such as assault weapon bans or magazine capacity bans.
- These states include California, New York, Hawaii, and Colorado.
- If one is just getting into the hobby, it is recommended to start with a simple build kit and 3D print either the new version of the u-bolt lower or the new Hoffman tactical lower.
- It is important to read up on the relevant laws and statutes in one’s state for homemade firearms.
- One should treat homemade firearms the same as any other gun.
- When pulled over, one should tell the officer they have a gun, and only offer information when specifically asked.
- Having a copy of the law printed can be useful.
- It is important to note that the individual who stole the gun commits the felony, not the victim of theft.
- Some states have gun lock up laws, so it is important to check what the local laws are.

Building a homemade pistol:
- It requires approximately 100 hours of machining and $75 of material.
- It can be based on a Webley revolver, and can be chambered in.22 lr rather than the.455 Webley.
- It takes manual indexing of each chamber and uses lower pressure loads (like matchhead powder loads).
- It requires a milling machine and lathe for the heavy work, then your basics like a drill press, belt sander, grinder, bandsaw, etc.
- It is recommended to serialize it for one’s own records, in case of theft.
-
Registering the pistol:
- Most states do not require guns to be registered to owners.
- The ATF recommends that you serial number it just for your own records, in case of theft, but no binding requirements.

Source: "Homemade Ar15 pistol brace" (from reddit, r/ar15pistol)
-
Legality of 3D printing attachments:
- The ATF doesn’t care what you do, until they do.
- If you get on their radar, they may charge you with possession of an undocumented SBR even if you purchased a legal AR pistol off the shelf with a commercial brace.
-
Design brace to use a shockwave blade buffer tube:
- To be safe, design your brace to use a shockwave blade buffer tube, and not a mil spec or commercial spec stock.
- Submit forms and follow up questions to make sure it couldn’t be argued that you had “constructive possession” issues.
-
ATF is fickle:
- Don’t trust the ATF to set a standard and then live by it.
