I conducted research on small dishwashers suitable for small kitchens by examining seven sources. These sources provided information on various dishwasher models, their features, and their suitability for small kitchens. The sources had a general consensus on the types of dishwashers available for small kitchens, including built-in, countertop, and portable models. There was a good amount of information available, giving me a moderate level of certainty in my findings.

• There are two types of compact dishwashers: table-top (or countertop) compact dishwashers and built-in drawer models. • Countertop dishwashers can fit in any kitchen that will accommodate them. They sit on the kitchen counter, take up less space, and are more affordable when compared to built-in models. • Built-in drawer compact dishwashers are designed to be built into a kitchen cupboard and blend into your kitchen décor. They require little countertop space but are pricier when compared to countertop and freestanding dishwashers. • Dishwashers can be classified as freestanding, semi-integrated, or integrated. Freestanding dishwashers sit on a countertop and are relatively cheap, while semi-integrated dishwashers do not take up much space on a countertop, but the controls may not be visible when in use. • Sizes of compact dishwashers vary. Built-in drawer compact dishwashers will be a little smaller than a single built-in oven, while table-top ones are a bit more prominent than a large microwave. They go back in depth about as far as a normal dishwasher – usually between 50cm and 60cm. • Compact dishwashers typically have six place settings, half that of the smallest full-sized dishwashers. • The most basic models often have a selection of programs, including an eco wash, intensive cycle, fast wash, delicate, and glassware cleaning programs. • Compact dishwashers use less water than full-sized and slimline dishwashers, but plate for plate, they use more water and energy per item. The least efficient compact dishwasher would cost less than the most efficient full sized models – around £43. • Table-top dishwashers need to be plumbed in to allow the dirt from dishes to be drained away, just like any other dishwasher. If it’s sitting on the countertop, you’ll have to drill a hole through the counter to connect it to the sink waste, as well as connect it to the water supply. • Dishwashers with auto programs measure how soiled dishes and glasses are and adjust the amount of water, temperature, and duration of the program to suit. • Some compact dishwashers will have a delicate or glassware program to clean your glasses at a lower temperature, protecting them from breakages. • The most efficient compact dishwasher adds £28 to your energy bills each year, based on running it five times every week. • The cost of a compact dishwashers installation
